Job title: Dental Assistant – Periodontics
Job duties:
The Dental Assistant will provide comprehensive chairside assistance to a periodontist, specializing in surgical and non-surgical periodontal procedures. The role involves preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing instruments, managing infection control protocols, and ensuring a safe, sterile, and well-organized clinical environment.
The assistant will support the periodontist during dental surgeries including implant placements, osseous surgery, and tissue grafting by anticipating procedural needs and handling dental instruments and materials efficiently.
Additional responsibilities include taking and developing dental radiographs (X-rays), charting periodontal measurements, managing patient records, providing pre- and post-operative instructions, and ensuring patients are informed and comfortable throughout their treatment.
The Dental Assistant must demonstrate strong clinical knowledge, precision in surgical support, attention to detail, and compassionate patient care.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree Field: Health Sciences, Dental Assisting, or a related allied health field
- Major: Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Dentistry, or a related dental discipline.
- Experience 24 months, assist dentists, set up equipment, prepare patients for treatment, keep records, sterilize instruments, prepare materials, take X-rays, and assist during dental procedures.
Special skills or other requirements
- Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Texas
- Certification in Radiology (as required by Texas Dental Board)
- CPR/BLS certification
- Experience with sedation and nitrous monitoring under the direction of a licensed provider
- Proficiency in taking dental radiographs, including PAs, BWs, panoramic, and CBCT imaging
- Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA protocols
- Strong patient communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with phlebotomy and PRF preparation (if applicable)
- Knowledge of dental software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
